Created by a family who have been coming here for more than ten years, Bendega Villas embraces all they love about being in Bali. The villa’s design combines traditional Balinese architecture with clean modern lines, numerous indoor and outdoor spaces that allow groups to gather but also allow the privacy to get away from everyone and everything. Set in almost an acre of wonderful tropical gardens overlooking the rice fields, the villa is a short walk from the beach and a short drive to the chic restaurants and bars of Seminyak; close to the excitement of Bali but far enough away to ensure a traditional Balinese experience.

Designed in partnership with internationally renowned architect Glenn Parker, Bendega Villas respects the style, proportion and symmetry of traditional Balinese architecture within a modern tropical design. Built as a series of five pavilions totalling almost 1,000 m2 and constructed with uncompromising attention to detail, the villa is finished with the highest quality materials including Indonesian hardwood floors, Balinese ceramics, Indian sandstone and Italian travertine, chosen for their natural beauty and durability.

Bendega Villas offers plenty of private spaces to get away from it all and unwind. The four large bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms and private balconies, are positioned to capture stunning views. A reading balé, a gym and massage room with outdoor bath, a library with 50-nch plasma TV, a games room complete with pool table, and a sun deck hidden below the pool provide ample opportunities for relaxation. The villa’s contemporary design is enhanced, outside and in, with thoughtfully chosen Balinese and Javanese sculptures, cabinets and artefacts – many of them antique – as well as bright floral fabrics and custom-printed traditional ikat textiles that bring the stylish dark-wood furniture to vivid life. Location

Surrounded by terraced rice fields and only five minutes’ walk from the beach and the extraordinarily romantic Hotel Tugu, Bendega Villas borders a small fishing village of the same name in the district of Canggu, southwest Bali. Despite its rural setting the villa is only 20 minutes’ drive from the restaurants and shops of cosmopolitan Seminyak, an hour from Bali’s cultural centre of Ubud, and 30 minutes from the international airport.

Staff

One of the greatest advantages of staying in a villa is the personal service provided by a dedicated team of professional staff. With this in mind, the team at Bendega Villas have been thoughtfully recruited according to their skills, personality and (in many cases) membership of the local village community. Their aim is to look after every villa guest – from toddler to grandparent – in true Balinese style by understanding individual expectations and preferences. The Villa Manager and Chef, in particular, will be only too delighted to discuss your desires or concerns and do what they can to guarantee a relaxed and enjoyable holiday.

Full time manager:
Our villa manager, Harsana, is responsible for the overall operation of Bendega Villas including staffing, special requests and guest satisfaction. He is fluent in both English and Japanese.

Full time Chef:
Our chef, Made, has had more than 10 years experience in both Asian and Western cuisine. At the villa daily to prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner, he is happy to accommodate any special requests or dietary needs. Dinner parties and other special events can also be catered for.

Butlers:
Four butlers attend daily to all cleaning and tidying requirements at Bendega Villas. The same team are skilled waiters/waitresses and will assist the kitchen at mealtimes.

Driver:
A driver and seven-seater car are available to villa guests for up to 10 hours a day (excluding petrol). Rates also include airport pick-up and drop-off.

Gardeners and pool attendants:
The gardens and pool at Bendega Villas are tended daily.

Orientation

Bendega Villas has been carefully designed to maximize its 3,900 m2 of land amidst the rice terraces of Canggu. The villa’s six buildings form a rough ‘H’ shape, with the main living and sleeping accommodation spread across the two-story horizontal bar of the ‘H’, and one of the three master bedrooms, the pool pavilion, the gym and the staff quarters forming the four ‘prongs’. This pleasing symmetry is carried through to many elements within the villa, including the 11 m2 swimming pool which lies between the pool pavilion and a master bedroom pavilion.

Entry

The villa is entered via gates which slide open to reveal a 2 m-high black-stone Buddha head serenely welcoming visitors to the property. The entry courtyard provides ample room for parking and is dotted with frangipani, oil palms, jasmine, yuccas and African tulip trees. Guests walk over sandstone steps across a large koi-filled pond to the main entrance doors.

Sitting Room

Two sets of tall sliding doors at the entrance to the main building open to reveal a spectacular open-air, double-height sitting room which faces the garden and pool, and overlooks the rice fields beyond. This space, which seats 12, is simply but very stylishly furnished with two oversized black teak sofas and armchairs set around matching coffee tables. The black upholstery is brought to life with vibrant contrasting green and orange patterned scatter cushions.
Along the back wall of the sitting room, an ancient canoe has been topped with glass and transformed into a 6m-long table; a stunning centerpiece for a buffet dinner. Above the canoe, 10 antique carved wooden panels are framed against the golden sandstone walls. A galleried timber walkway runs above the sitting area and then ducks back to the upstairs of the bedrooms, providing another opportunity to enjoy the views.

Dining Room

To the right of the sitting room, glass sliding doors lead into the formal, wooden-floored, dining room, showcasing a massive, 5m-long solid Marbau dining table which will seat up to 20 people. More sliding glass doors open onto the garden at the front, while a large mirror is set in an antique door frame at the far end of the room. A charming old green glass-fronted cabinet houses glassware and crockery next to a door which leads through to the kitchen.
The kitchen at Bendega Villas reflects the owners’ love of cooking. The fully-fitted, air-conditioned, modern kitchen has such appeal that it’s almost tempting to give the chef a day off! Dark wood cabinets, cream-colored Corian work tops and glass splash-backs create clean lines, while a central island worktop ensures plenty of space.
The chef’s biggest delight is the range of equipment available to him here – including an extra large oven, a Jura Impressa coffee machine, waffle-maker, Cuisinart panini toaster, ice cream maker and dishwasher, to name but a few. The kitchen is also equipped with two large fridges, and a freezer and wine fridge in the pantry.

Library

On the other side of the open-air sitting room is the comfortable library and adjoining games room. A set of floor-to-ceiling shelves contain numerous books on Bali and Indonesia as well as more popular holiday reading. The library has a 50-inch flat-screen television with DVD player and more than 50 international satellite channels. An L-shaped, five-seater sofa and two orange, green and cream floral print chairs offer plenty of comfort in front of the TV.

Games Room

The games room is almost completely surrounded by glass and can be opened up on three sides to the gardens if desired. A high, round table and bar stools plus two easy chairs provide seating for spectators. While the full-sized pool table is the center of attention, there is a wide selection of games, for those less adept with the cue.
Across from the library and games room is a delightful guest washroom. Finished in warm Indian Sandstone, and furnished with a very beautiful antique cabinet featuring colorfully painted Indonesian characters, this washroom opens into a small walled garden planted with frangipani trees and decorated with carved stone panels and pedestals.

Pool & Pavilion

Across the lawn, directly opposite the sitting room, the 11 x 11m stone-tiled infinity-edged swimming pool overlooks the rice fields. As well as being large enough for some serious swimming, the pool is perfectly positioned for sunset cocktails, which can be enjoyed from the wide stone ‘shelves’ set into the pool at just the right depth.
To the right of the pool a large open-sided pavilion is home to a huge L-shaped daybed, upholstered in waterproof orange Sunbrella fabric and scattered with bright, sunny cushions; and you can roll straight into the pool from the matching beanbags at the edge of the pool deck.
The round table and chairs at the center of the pool pavilion will seat up to 10 people for casual outdoor dining. This is a great place to congregate at the start of the day for a ‘come-as-you-please’ breakfast. Behind a sliding louvered door at one side of the pool pavilion is a water cooler, bar fridge and sink neatly set into cupboards and counter top. Around the corner from here a door leads into a guest changing room with toilet and shower.

Garden Bale

To the far side of the lawn, perched over another koi pond that leads to one of the bedrooms, is a peaceful relaxation bale furnished with a comfortable daybed, floor cushions and two petrified-wood stools.

Gym & Massage

To the right of the entry courtyard, a stepping-stone pathway leads across the lawn to the gym and massage room, housed in its own private pavilion. This room is divided by a folding carved wood screen, with a massage bed on one side and an exercise bike and treadmill on the other.
While they exercise, gym users have the option to watch TV or listen to music, which can be programmed specifically for this room.
Although surrounded by glass on three sides, the gym and massage room is fitted with blinds which can be pulled down for privacy and the room can be fan-cooled or air conditioned.
Tucked away behind the gym is an outdoor bathroom with toilet, rain shower and, the pièce de résistance, a huge bathtub carved from a single piece of black granite, reached by stepping stones over a tranquil pond. The walled garden surrounding the tub is planted with frangipani and palms and a Flame of the Forest tree – a sublime place to relieve those aching muscles after a good work-out.

Bedrooms

Every bedroom at Bendega Villas has lovely open views across the greener-than-green rice fields of Canggu. The villa can accommodate eight people in three king-bedded rooms and one twin bedroom (which can convert into a fourth king-bedded room). There is capacity to add two more fold-away beds for children if required. All bedrooms are generously sized, tastefully furnished, and have en-suite bathrooms and outdoor balconies.

Master Bedroom – Ground FlooFloor – Purple Room

Accessed by stepping stones across a garden pond, the first master bedroom is housed in its own pavilion at the front of the gardens, directly overlooking the rice fields. This room is private, peaceful and perfectly placed. A canopied, four-poster, king-size bed is the focus of the room, facing a private terrace and the rice fields beyond. Behind the bed is a large, walk-through, mirrored dressing area with enough wardrobe space for even the most extended of stays.
The room is furnished with antique console tables, bedside cabinets and an easy chair upholstered in ikat fabric, custom-printed to match the other purple accessories in the room. A door at the side of the bedroom leads out to the pool and gardens.
The en-suite bathroom is vast. At one end, again overlooking the rice fields, is a sunken double bathtub. Two wash basins are set in Travertine vanity tops running along the side of the bathroom while, at the far end, a large walk-in shower offers both rain shower and hand shower fittings.

Master Bedroom – Upstairs – Orange Room

This bedroom is positioned at the far right of the upper floor in the main building directly above the dining room. Accessed by a private walkway, a centrally placed, canopied, four-poster king-size bed looks out onto a private terrace with daybed which, in turn, overlooks the gardens, pool and rice fields. To the right of the bed is an antique yellow and green painted Javanese cupboard, on top of which are two painted wooden cockerels.
Directly behind the bed, the dressing area leads through to another large en-suite bathroom presenting similar fittings to those in all the master bedrooms, but this time the super-size bathtub overlooks the gardens at rear of the villa. Adjoining the bedroom is a study equipped with a laptop computer and printer for guest use.

Master Bedroom – Upstairs – Green Room

At the opposite end of the upper floor another king-bedded master bedroom awaits. The large bathroom also has a separate shower and a large bathtub with views of the ocean. The room is furnished with teak console tables, bedside cabinets and an easy chair upholstered in ikat fabric, custom-printed to match the other green accessories in the room.
A canopied king-size four-poster bed looks out over a full ‘wall’ of sliding glass doors that lead out onto a balcony furnished with colorful daybed which is shared with the twin room next door.

Twin Room – Upstairs – Turquoise Room

Bendega Villas has been designed with families in mind and this twin-bedded room, with its turquoise accessories is ideal for children (the beds can be easily converted to a king size if preferred). This bedroom also features a 37-inch flat screen TV. Fitted wardrobes and shelving, an antique console, easy chair and bedside tables complete the furnishings. The en-suite bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower and double wash basins.

ENTRANCE :

From the main gate surrounded by an external tropical garden, a large path slope down to the round about where 4 covered car parks are surrounding the main entrance of the villa. THE TERRACE :

The gate of Emerald River is opening on a large pebble wash terrace representing on a large scale different tattoo design. This 150 m2 terrace is planted of several palm trees and is featuring 3 single and 1 double well design long chairs, all equipped with comfortable mattress and protected by umbrellas.

THE POOL :

Surrounding on one side by the terrace, the 150 m2 overflow pool plus the 25 m2 whirlpool are 25 m long. The amazing shape, the size, the cladding with Indian stones, the overflow on the garden below and the big mango tree gives certainly the most inviting private swimming pool in Bali.

THE GYM :

On the right side of the pool, the 60 m2 open space gym with wood floor is featuring equipment such a Treadmill, Bicycle, Dumbbell, Trainer, balls, DVD and television…
The east wall is entirely covered by a mirror.

LIVING AREA :

The 100 m2 open space living area with its terrazzo floor is proposing the same tattoo design than for the terrace. It’s featuring on one side very comfortable sofa and armchairs and close to the pool a modern well designed waterproof sofa combined with armchairs and coffee table. The living area is equipped with 3 air fan, Bose sound system.

DINING AREA & PANTRY :

From the living area, through a wood bridge, guests entered in the air conditioned dinning room and pantry. All the walls are in wood and glass, the floor in terrazzo. From here, you can see the pool on one side and the ocean on the other side. The high ceiling is equipped of air fan as well. The pantry is fully equipped and the dinning room is featuring a 12 seats round table.

Villa Jago is a stylish, sophisticated and modern beachfront Bali villa, located on the calm and traditional area of Canggu, right on the beach of Pantai Berawa with fabulous views of ocean and sunset.

The contemporary design represented by clean lines and minimal composition includes black granite, Indian slate, marble, wood and a massive foyer and sliding 18 meter windows to enjoy the sunset and panoramic beach view.
Much of the chic and funky furniture and home wares have been imported. It’s high-tech with an electrically-operated hatch that closes over the stairwell for safety and security as well as 18 top-quality speakers to provide sound in the living room, terrace, lounge sofa area and pool deck.

Accommodation and facilities include three air-conditioned master bedrooms with “en-suite” bathrooms with large walk in wardrobes, one kid’s air-conditioned bedroom connected to one of the downstairs bedrooms ideal for comfortably hosting two kids, a 2 by 2 meter jacuzzi in a private terrace facing to the sunset, two public toilets, a TV air-conditioned room, a stand alone air-conditioned gym, an elevated 20 meter infinity pool perpendicularly towards the ocean constructed in rich black and green stones and surrounding landscaped garden, an open and closed living room area and a fully equipped kitchen. There are two indoor dining areas: one is sunken tatami-style with a white marble table for six, while the other is furnished with a wooden table flanked by six retro-style cocoon imported chairs. Including the large cushioned daybed behind the pool, the various seating arrangements on the upstairs terrace and the indoor living areas there are a total of eight different areas to stretch out and do whatsoever you choose.

With so many places to relax and play, Villa Jago is perfectly suited for groups looking for a funky out-of-town party pad, as well as for families who like lots of space as well as a beach to explore, complete with a sheltered lagoon for swimming. With its large beach side garden and private velvety lawn in the lee of a small sand dune, Villa Jago is the ideal venue for an event or wedding.

No expense has been spared on the lighting, designer furnishing and appliances and high quality bathroom fittings. 42-inch satellite TV/DVD home theater and WiFi internet access is available throughout the property. Surrounding Area

Villa Jago is located on the calm and traditional area of Canggu, right on the beach of Pantai Berawa: the surrounding area is all about the beach. You can walk for miles along the sand in either direction, a particularly enjoyable activity either in the early mornings or the late afternoons. You can watch the surfers riding the waves, and you will see horses from the nearby stables being exercised, as well as a fair number of people walking their dogs or jogging at the water’s edge. You can buy fresh fish directly from the fishermen at the nearby Pantai Nelayan, which means ‘Fisherman’s Beach’, and gain an insight into the working lives of Bali’s fishing community at the same time. The surfing beach of Batu Mejan, known as Echo Beach, with its social scene and eateries, is a 20 minute stroll along the beach or, if you prefer, a few minutes’ drive from the villa by car. 10-15 minute from the bustling Oberoi/Seminiak where you can find international restaurants, trendy bars, cozy boutiques and Spas. Ngurah Rai International Airport is 30 minutes drive away.

Restaurants and Shopping:

At Echo Beach (4km by road or a 20 minute walk along the beach) there is a strip of about six restaurants/cafes set on a beach side buff. The Beach House offers indoor and outdoor seating and an extensive international menu, together with a daily barbeque of fresh fish, lobster, giant prawns, clams, steaks, kebabs etc. Live music takes place on Friday and Sunday evenings, starting at around sunset. The strip can get very busy and lively, full of surfers at lunchtimes and a very mixed casual crowd in the evenings, with lots of kids. Hotel Tugu (4km by road or a short walk along the beach) is open to outside guests and offers authentic Chinese and Indonesian fine dining, as well as an International menu in a variety of unique settings. At the rustic restaurant known as ‘Waroeng Tugu’, located at the hotel, you can taste the traditional Javanese and Balinese cuisine of bygone centuries. There are also a few nearby warungs (local eateries), while the charming Desa Seni boutique resort (2km) serves fresh healthy cuisine, with most of the produce organically grown in the resort’s garden. The Canggu Deli stocks plenty of gourmet food items. There is a wide choice of fine dining, mid range and cheep ‘n cheerful restaurants in Seminyak (6km) including the famous Ku Dé Ta’, the impressive French fine-dining restaurant Métis (from the owners of Kafé Warisan), Hu’u, the Beach side La Lucciola, the romantic Living Room, and Sarong. There are numerous chic boutiques around Seminyak as well as furniture, antique and homeware stores in the nearby Kerobokan area.

Attractions and Things To Do

If you’re a spa lover you will be in heaven at the enchanting spa at Hotel Tugu and if you’re a yogaphile you can enjoy daily yoga classes at Desa Seni Resort. Horse riding is available at Kuda P riding stables (3km), offering beach and rice field rides. Villa Jago is just 5 minute away from the many amenities of the Canguu Club. The Nirwana Bali Golf Course (15km) is bordered by ocean and rice fields, and features dramatic, strategically positioned white sand bunkers, freshwater creeks and mature trees, making it one of the most visually spectacular courses in Asia. Tanah Lot sea temple is adjacent to the golf course, and is probably the most photographed temple in Bali especially at sunset. If you fancy a day out there are a number of specialist adventure tour companies operating in Bali, offering exciting excursions such river rafting, canyon tubing, mountain cycling, jungle trekking, Harley-Davidson tours, Quad off-road motorcycle adventures and 4-wheel-drive expeditions. Most companies provide a door-to-door pick-up and drop-off service. Surfing lessons are available for all comers on Seminyak and Kuta beaches. Ubud (29km) is Bali’s cultural hub and the scenery is fantastic. Additionally, there are theme parks such as Waterbom (13km) and the Elephant Safari Park (44km) which are fun for kids and adults alike. The villa manager will help you to book all of this

Accommodations

The villa is set within the exclusive gated development of Pantai Berawa with ample parking and Villa Kaira is entered via a 100-year-old traditional Gobiak (traditional Javanese gate). Entrance to the property is over an extended wooden walkway crossing a sprawling coy filled lake with guest villas on either side before entering the main house with its breathtaking views of the Indian ocean.

Bedrooms

Each of the five bedrooms are fully air conditioned with en-suite bathrooms with direct views over the ocean or the lake. All the floors are of traditional Merbau wood with beautiful marble bathrooms.

Master Suite

Set upstairs in the main house with its own private terrace overlooking the ocean at the front and Bali’s volcanoes at the back the master suite is styled on the world famous “Chedi Muscat Hotel” in Muscat, Oman. The master bed is modern contemporary with the finest Egyptian cottons hand made and imported. With a huge dressing area and Jacuzzi in the bathroom the master suite is the heart of luxury.

English Suite

Set downstairs in the main house is the traditional English bedroom with a hand carved English bed in traditional Edwardian style. Covered in the finest English fabrics the room opens up onto the dining terrace with views directly over the ocean. The dressing room opens into an outdoor bathroom with traditional English bathtub and outdoor shower.

Balinese Suite

Floating in the coy lake the Balinese suite is a self-contained guesthouse with a traditional four-poster bed with traditional Balinese drapes and colours. The room is completely surrounded by water with the goddess Sita watching over. The dressing room opens out into a beautiful marble bathroom with access to a private garden with rainwater shower.

Chinese Suite

Opposite the Balinese suite sits the Chinese suite floating in the Coy lake with a hand carved Chinese bed with traditional deep reds. The room features a beautiful exposed wooden ceiling with a Chinese black bathroom opening out onto a dramatic carved dragon and outdoor rainwater shower.

Temple Suite

Upstairs in the main house is the modern temple suite with it private terrace overlooking the spectacular local Balinese temple, volcanoes and cows grazing in the fields. The room features a modern stylish double bed that can be split into two single beds if required. The on-suite bathroom has a beautiful bath tub with views directly over the lake.

Dining Area/ Kitchen

The main house contains a beautiful hand carver suar wood table that comfortably seats ten guests. The table is overlooked by a dramatic Buddha stone carving and enjoys views out over the gardens and ocean.

The main house also contains a more informal dining area on the outdoor terrace that seats ten people comfortably overlooking the ocean. This is often used for breakfast to catch the refreshing morning ocean breezes.

The main house contains a huge beautiful modern kitchen with imported appliances as well as a well-stocked wine fridge, Nespresso coffee maker and ice dispenser.

Living Area

Almost the whole of the downstairs of the main house is open plan with huge sofas and chairs to relax in and watch the timeless waves crash into the beach. There is a baby grand piano eagerly waiting to be played.

Set off from the main living area is a full size snooker/ billiard room with high backed leather chairs.

At the top of the grand sweeping staircase is another huge living area with sofas and comfy leather chairs as well as a Nintendo WII if you have run out of things to occupy your days. Set off from the upstairs living area is a fully functional office with a one-piece walnut desk and printer/copier/ scanner if you need to work. (The house is fully WIFI enabled)

Set outside on the upstairs terrace is a beautiful Gazebo where you can sip a glass of wine as you watch the sun drop into the Indian Ocean.

Facilities

Pool and garden

The property features an 18m x 5m infinity edge pool dropping off to views of the ocean. A small pathway by the side of the pool takes you directly down to the beach where boogie boards are stored. The front garden is full of palm trees and frangipani trees while the rear garden contains frangipani trees in the Coy lake.
By the pool is another beautiful Gazebo which can be used for massages or relaxing during the day.

Gym

The property features a fully functional gym with free weights, Yoga area and Lifecycle equipment.

Home Entertainment Room

The main house features a huge TV room with a sofa that can comfortably seat eight persons as well as beanbags. It has a state of the art 50inch LCD TV with satellite and all the latest DVD titles.

Billiard/ Snooker Room

Set off from the main living area is a full size snooker/ billiard table (12’x6’). The room has high backed leather chairs and is the ideal place to smoke a cigar and take a Cognac in the evening
